Director of Nursing (RN)
Position Summary
The Director of Nursing is responsible for supervising the Nursing Department to ensure high-quality resident care. This role coordinates facility-wide infection prevention efforts, ensures regulatory compliance, and provides leadership to nursing staff across the organization.
Job Type: Full-time, Exempt
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. (or as needed based on facility needs)
On-Call: Included in on-call rotation
Work Location: In person
Key Responsibilities
• Lead, supervise, and evaluate the Nursing Department
• Develop and communicate nursing philosophy, goals, and objectives
• Recruit, hire, orient, develop, and retain nursing staff
• Ensure staffing patterns, schedules, and evaluations support quality care
• Oversee implementation of resident care policies and care planning
• Conduct quality assurance rounds and resident visits
• Provide clinical guidance and consultation to nursing staff
• Monitor infection control practices, trends, and interventions
• Ensure completion of MDS assessments and required documentation
• Promote a safe environment for residents and staff
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, state, and federal regulations
• Participate in surveys and respond to regulatory findings
• Prepare reports and submit required documentation in a timely manner
• Assist with preparation and management of the nursing budget
• Monitor use of supplies, equipment, and contracted services
• Collaborate with department leaders to improve care and services
• Lead nursing meetings and participate in interdisciplinary committees
• Serve as a professional representative of the organization
• Promote resident rights, quality outcomes, and staff engagement
• Participate in on-call rotation and other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervises nursing leadership and staff, including ADON, Nurse Supervisors, RNs, LPNs, CNAs, and related support roles.
Education & Qualifications
• Associate Degree in Nursing required
• Current RN license required
• CPR certification required
• Two to four years of RN supervisory experience in long-term care
• Knowledge of infection control and regulatory requirements
• Experience with fiscal management and budgeting preferred
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
• Proficiency with computer systems and data management
