The House has proposed to make substantial cuts to the 202 program and to the National Housing Trust Fund. Please take action on our call to protect the 202 program and the National Housing Trust Fund during the time your elected officials are back home.

When speaking to your Representative, communicate the following key points about the THUD bill:

  • Affordable housing programs have faced enormous cuts in recent years. They cannot sustain further reductions in funding.  End the sequester caps and unnecessary austerity cuts.
  • The bill does not fund any new affordable senior housing programs, such as the Section 202 Capital Advance Grant Program
  • The Section 202 Project Rental Assistance Contract renewals, a vital rental assistance support program, are underfunded by $44 million.  Subsidy is critical to the seniors who live in the property.
  • Funds already dedicated to the housing with services demonstration will be recaptured for other purposes, but if used as intended, could prove the savings potential for service enriched senior housing, a strategy we think will serve the nation well in the future.
  • Funding for the National Housing Trust Fund is eliminated - The NHTF has a dedicated source of revenue that should not be redirected.
