Tell Congress to "Get into the Act!"

This year is the 50th anniversary of the Older Americans Act (OAA), which makes it possible for nearly 12 million seniors in Indiana and across the U.S. to remain in their homes and communities. But while LeadingAge Indiana and LeadingAge celebrate Older Americans month, the OAA's Congressional authorization has been expired since 2011 and OAA programs and services remain woefully underfunded.

This year's Older Americans Month theme is "Get into the Act." LeadingAge Indiana and LeadingAge need your help to urge Congress to "Get into the Act" by funding, renewing, and protecting the OAA and its programs.

Why does the OAA matter?  The OAA's programs and services have continually achieved the OAA's main goal--to allow older adults to remain independent, either in their community or in their homes.

It targets its services to those in the greatest economic or social need, including Indiana's rural low-income seniors.

In Indiana, it operates through the Area Agencies and Aging, providing critical nutrition, home care and transportation to thousands of Hoosier seniors who otherwise wouldn't be able to live in the place they call home.
